Campaigns and challenges to abstain from alcohol for a month are nothing new. First of all, we want to clear up any potential misconceptions: Sober October has no connection to Oktoberfest. In fact, the Australian organization Life Education launched the "Oc-sober" campaign in 2010, encouraging young people in the state of Queensland to abstain from alcohol for the entire month. The British organization MacMillian Cancer Support was inspired by the idea and turned the pun into a rhyme. It also called on all participants in "Sober October" to donate the money they would have spent on alcohol that month to their organization and thus help cancer patients.
But you don't have to live Down Under or in the UK to participate in Sober October. Nor does it have to be in the context of a specific charity. It's perfectly legitimate for the good cause to be limited to your well-being.

Surely you have noticed that some of these beers are not completely alcohol-free. In fact, they have an alcohol content of up to 0.5%. The alcohol content depends on the brewing technique: either the alcohol is subsequently removed from the beer, or the fermentation process is stopped before an alcohol content of more than 0.5% is formed.
This 0.5% alcohol is also legally the upper limit to be called non-alcoholic beer.
