FEED ME, I'M IRISH - RECHARGE YOUR BATTERIES FOR ST. PATRICK'S DAY

Guinness

On March 17, the world sees green: people wear green clothes, rivers are dyed green, parades with leprechauns and three-leaf clovers are celebrated in many cities, all in honor of the Irish patron saint St. Patrick. But if you're ill-prepared for this day, you'll quickly experience a black miracle. We show you which energy sources will get you through the day.

FULL IRISH BREAKFAST

Let's start with the most important meal of the day, breakfast. And in this respect, the Irish do not do things by halves with their Full Irish Breakfast. A Full Irish includes bacon (called "rashers" in Ireland), Irish sausages with their very special and unique flavor, fried egg, mushrooms, black pudding and fried tomatoes. No beans, are you amazed? You can have them, but they actually belong more to their neighborly counterpart, the Full English. Instead, a slice or two of Irish Soda Bread is served. We'll tell you what that is in the next section.

IRISH SODA BREAD

The sweet and salty Irish Soda Bread is missing from almost every Irish meal. This bread not only shines with its golden brown crust, no. It's light and quite tender and soft inside. This is due to the baking powder and buttermilk, which are also responsible for the rising, because no yeast is used for this bread. And for this reason, Irish Soda Bread belongs to the category of quick breads. In fact, it takes no more than 10 minutes to prepare and it stays in the oven for just 45 minutes. You don't believe us? The lady in the video with the charming accent will show you how easy and fast it is. And by the way, if you like it a little sweet, feel free to throw some currants into the batter.

CORNED BEEF AND CABBAGE

THE classic dish par excellence on Paddy's Day, but less well known in this country. Traditionally, the corned beef, a large piece of cured beef brisket, is cooked in its own juices for two to three hours until it is done. The meat is then taken out and cabbage is then added to the remaining water along with other vegetables and cooked for 15 to 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can let the meat only partially cook and then roast it in the oven, and you can also sauté the cabbage in a pan - we'll let you experiment there. But what can not be missing is the right beer, and nothing is better than a Guinness.

TOASTIE

Let's face it, the chances of you ending up in a pub on St. Patrick's Day are relatively high. This also increases the likelihood that you'll treat yourself to a bite to eat between a few sips of barley juice. There is hardly a more typical Irish snack than the toastie. What do you mean, you don't know what a toastie is? Let's describe it this way: a toastie is happiness in sandwich form. The friends of Guinness have uploaded a video of it on Facebook and Instagram, which will make your mouth water.

Do you now feel grown to tackle the festivities? Good, because we have two legendary parties that celebrate their long-awaited comeback! On the one hand, the "St. Patrick's Day Sursee" will take place on March 19 at the Baragge restaurant, and on the other hand, the Thyon St. Patrick's Day is waiting for your visit.

There we say already: Sláinte!
