With passion, without compromise: This mindset accompanies the Valaisanne brewmasters in their work every day. Anyone who has ever drunk one of the beers from the oldest brewery in the canton of Valais can only confirm this. The finest ingredients, water from the La Fille spring at 1800 meters above sea level and the typical Valais persistence result in exceptional taste experiences. This is already true for the permanently available varieties such as the Pale Ale or the unfiltered Zwickel beer. But Brasserie Valaisanne reaches a little deeper into the bag of tricks of its trade at regular intervals - with its exclusive Limited Editions.
We have to warn you right away: To get your hands on a few of these coveted bottles, you'll need a certain amount of luck. After all, the trouvailles from the in-house microbrewery are never produced in large quantities. Rather, they are true connoisseur beers, which are solely due to the creativity and willingness to experiment of the Valaisanne team. The team attaches great importance to the regional roots of its limited editions.
That's why Valaisanne also likes to work with partners from the Valais. For the Grape Ale created in 2021, for example, winemaker Andy Varonier was brought on board. With his extensive know-how, he made it possible to combine beer and wine to create a new type of beverage that can be described as unique without exaggerating. Other limited editions of recent years:
In 2022, you can look forward to two more sensational beers from Sion. With the first of the two, the Juicy IPA, the Valais-based brewery is going all out for regionality: with Swiss malt and Swiss hops, they've created a classic, cold-hopped New England IPA, strikingly cloudy and with a wonderfully firm head. A fruity note in the aroma is contrasted with a velvety, smooth taste with a strong bitterness.
The second Limited Edition, the Apricot Sour, you'll find at the complete opposite end of the flavor scale, you might say. The malt blend here is enriched with Munich malt, which, despite its name, comes from Switzerland. It provides a slightly darker color and intensifies the malt flavor. As a result, it provides the perfectly matched contrast to the citrus notes of the Amarillo hops used and the most surprising ingredient: the puree of Valais apricots. The result is a sparkling and distinctly drinkable fruit sour ale, perfect for a summer's day in the Swiss mountains.
We mentioned above that there will be two limited editions this year. However, we know from confidential sources that a third one is not out of the question. Not much more has been learned so far, but what we have been able to find out is: "Roast aromas" are often spoken of at the brewery at the moment - any conclusions from that are left to you and your expertise. However, this beer is still in the experimental phase. For the crew at Valaisanne, that means they get to live their passion to the fullest once again. They are and always will be enterprising, the people of Valaisanne. Which always brings us new beer delights.
